Twirling Through the Decades

Last week's competition was actually a lot of fun. We were less stressed this time and Jaina new kinda what to expect going into it. Plus, her smile and confidence this time around was so awesome.
Doesn't she look so beautiful?! I think so!
She had on one of the best costumes there. She really did. She was SO sparkly. Everyone kept asking where she got her costume from and how beautiful she looked. It really boosted her confidence this time to really get out there and shine.
Here is the back of her costume.
During pageantry you can wear your hair down but in contest solo or duet it must be up in a bun.
Here she is all ready for her events
Practice makes perfect
Pageantry consists of three events, Pageant modeling aka (Best appearing), which is a slow walk, several pivots and turns. Then there is strut and xstrut which is basically military marching and pageant solo which is her solo routine.
She ended up placing 4 in modeling, 3 in strut, 5th in pageant solo. and overall 4th in pageantry which is all great scores for her first time

The contest was held at Letourneau University in one of their gyms. I like that Jaina is getting some exposure to some different universities because that way she can then decide where she wants to go to college in the future.
We took a lunch break and reapplied make up
Then it was time for her solo routine which is scored alone in a separate solo category. You can perform the same routine as your pageantry solo or a different one but since this was Jaina's first time, she just performed it twice for the judges.
Im so happy her costume didn't fall apart! Haha that's what I was nervous about.
She has to wear dance panty hose and tan dance shoes out on the floor
She aced both her solo routines with only ONE drop! I was so proud of her
She ended up with a 6th place in solo which she was not thrilled about but that's okay!
She still had a great time
Us moms had a great time too
The little girls on the team look up to Jaina so much. They love watching her perform.
Me, Maci and Kari at dinner the night before
After her solo she had a quick change for her duet with Sawyer
They practiced this routine perfectly right before they went out on stage and then in front of the judges Jaina fumbled a few times but they still managed to come in 1st place!

Instead of trophies at this contest they gave out records which we all thought was really cool! It was different. The kids enjoyed getting them. They also handed out medals, keychains and a few lava lamps as prizes!
Their gold record for 1st place duet
All the girls did so great! I loved watching all of them perform
Jaina ended up with one medal, one keychain medal and 3 records
I told her I was going to have to invest in a trophy cabinet for her wall
Lots of fun at this contest
And of course, us mom's had fun too. We have a great support team between all of us
As soon as the contest was over Jaina, and I booked it out of there. We were supposed to stay the night at Rachel and Greg's house that evening but they were sick, so we ended up driving 4 hours home. We both just wanted to get home. We got home late but were glad to be home.
I'm so proud of her and all her hard work she has put into twirling this year.

The Pink Pistol

Thursday Mimi came up to watch Jolee and Jewell for the weekend. Justin went hunting for the weekend and Jaina and I were going to contest. Friday, I took Jaina out of school early as we had a 4-hour drive ahead of us to Longview.

We took to back roads all the way to Longview to avoid Friday traffic in Dallas. It was a looooong drive. Jaina slept most of the drive. We stopped and had lunch before leaving town and then stopped at Collins Street Bakery for yummy cookies and the best lemon bar. They were SO good.
Then we stopped in Lindale to break up the monotony of the trip
So what's in Lindale you might ask? Miranda Lambert's store, the Pink Pistol!
So of course, we had to go check it out
I love Miranda Lambert! I don't like a lot of new country music, but I do love her music. She seems like a girl I could hang with.
She has a store, restaurant and winery all in the same building.
It was so much fun to visit
This is what you see as you walk in.
Her saddle she used at some of her shows
A sweets bar. We did not get anything because we were full from lunch and our cookies.
She had lots of clothes, souvenirs, cookware and memorabilia.
This is the town she grew up in and went to school

This was her little memorabilia section with her albums and a guitar.

Jaina ended up getting a pair of sunglasses
And I ended up getting a thermal cup and a Christmas ornament
She even has a street named after her
Once we were done, we headed on down the road to Longview. We got to the hotel and immediately changed and went to eat dinner with the other team members at this really good Mexican restaurant called Papacita's. We ended the night getting Jaina's lane assignments from her coach and heading to bed.
