Frugal Frannie

You know what they say:
One mans trash is another mans treasure
And it's so true!
Having a garage sale is ALOT of work!
Last night I spent forever at my friend Rosie's house pricing items and setting up.
My uncle donated a bunch of stuff, I mean JUNK for our cause.
I told my friend that this stuff was never going to sell but sure enough it did!
Jaina and I were up at 5:45am on our way to Rosie's house
(that's earlier then I get up for work)

We set up and started getting customers right away.
People sure did surprise me, I had tons of nice clothes and shoes and hardly any of it was sold. Instead people bought used car mats, empty cd cases, broken mirrors, like the craziest stuff!
I could not believe it
Here's the drive way where we had just a little amount of what we really had. We were still moving box loads of stuff out.
Apparently Jaina found herself a toy but I had to explain to her that we already have one of those at homeTowards the end of the day we still had tons of stuff left and were going to donate whatever we didn't sell to St. Mary's Church.
A family showed up at the last minute who had 6 kids so we told them everything was .25 cents. Well I had three very nice formal dresses that I wore once, including this 175$ bridesmaid dress and when she brought them to me I almost threw up! I know that i was going to donate it anyways but it just made my stomach turn knowing that I was fixing to give this lady 3 formal dresses that retailed over 500.00 for .75 cents!
(This dress right here!)

Huhhhhhh

But it also made me feel good too knowing her mother probably couldn't have bought her a 175.00 dress because there are 6 six of them and I know she will enjoy them and enjoy making good memories in them like I did:)
Overall we had a blast doing it and made out like a bandit too!
After the sale was over we rummaged through each others stuff and swapped a few things and I got this for Dixi, hehe
Her own little furry collar jacket, haha.
She hated it! And since Dixi chewed up her bed last week we stopped at the store on our way home and picked her up a new one.
She likes it, it has more room.

And she gets so excited too!
Lets just hope she doesn't take after her momma who has to try on 10 outfits before they go anywhere, lol

Theme from "Mystery!"

Today Justin was at work and I had the day off and was really bored so Jaina and I decided to run a couple of errands in the rain.
But I didn't think that it was going to rain so much that I would get stuck in the store with a screaming, tired toddler!
Bad choice Mom!
After the rain subsided we went and visited daddy at the fire station and then headed to Wal-mart
We strolled around the toy section so I could start writing down some birthday present ideas because you know her birthday isn't until OCTOBER! Lol
I obviously like to plan ahead of time.
I already have her theme picked out and some party decorations bought.
Crazy huh!
Hey, at least I don't have to cram at the end to buy everything at one time.
As I was looking around getting some ideas guess who found herself a toy
she walked up and down each isle pulling and pushing that thing.
It makes a loud popping noise when pulled.
I remember having one as a child too so I let her pull it all the way out of Wal-mart and now its home with us.
It snowed while we were out, Haha
Actually Justin had to buy me some Seven Dust for my garden because my pumpkin I was bragging about two days ago is no more thanks to some stink bugs.
I have no idea how this seven dust works so I just powdered the whole thing.
We may not be able to eat the veggies now but it sure will keep the bugs away!
On another note we got gutters yesterday.
Yes I could have thought of plenty of things we could have done with the money we spent on gutters but apparently we needed them more then we needed a Wii :(
Now since we have gutters Justin will be building me some flower boxes for each window and a tressel to go between these to windows as well.
Yes the back of our house looks like a hot mess thanks to the broom accident last year but will be looking better here in the next couple of weeks.
And I found something tonight that I have been looking for, for a very long time.
My uncle came over and we got to talking about old t.v. shows that I use to watch with my granny when I was little.
There use to be a show called "Mystery" that only came on PBS.
And in the summers when I stayed with her we would crawl up in bed and watch her little black and white t.v. that only had about 10 channels.
She would mainly watch PBS and the only thing I could remember about this show was the cartoon at the beginning of the show.
It was black and white and was set in a grave yard and I LOVED watching it.
I thought to myself, no wonder I'm a Funeral Director I loved watching scary mystery shows with my grandma!

Really?

So today I had to run to the post office to drop off some sympathy cards for work.
While I was their I was directed by my boss to pick up a veteran's flag that we use for our funeral services.
So I wait in line and when it was my turn I walk up to the counter and hand the gentleman my paperwork to receive my flag.
He looked at me and said "how can I help you"
I say "I need to get a flag"
"Oh, Okay, hold on" he says
So he goes over to consult with another gentleman at the counter.
The other gentlemen (who usually waits on me) waves hi and then directs the other man to go to the vault and get me a flag.
He comes over and hands me a flag and tells me where to sign for receiving the flag.
While I'm signing the paper he says "well, this is strange, at my old post office we would only let Funeral Directors sign for flags"
I look up at him and say "I am a Funeral Director"
"Oh, I'm sorry you don't look like a Funeral Director"
"Oh huhhhh" "Really"
"Well I mean, you...you just look really young"
"uhhhhh haha" I smile, take my flag, put my tail between my legs, swallow my pride, and slowly walk away.

Geeeezzzz
Maybe its a small town thing
What do people really "expect" a funeral director to look like these days....its 2010!

Weekend Events

Friday I was off from work and had already scheduled Jaina for the whole week of daycare so I went ahead and dropped her off for a couple hours while I ran some personal errands.
I forgot how much and how many places you can go in one trip without having to take a toddler in and out of your car.
Justin had a doctor's appointment to get his heart scanned because his regular physician thought she may have found something wrong but turns out everything is A ok!
Friday night we dropped Jaina off at Justin's moms house for a couple hours so we could meet some friends down in Austin.
We met at The Iron Cactus on 6th street and had a blast!
It was SO good spending time catching up.
We haven't seen each other in 5 years and seemed like we haven't missed a beat!
The only photo I have from Friday night was this one of Jaina who was not in the best mood to be taking pictures.

Saturday my sister Stephanie came over to hang out.

We ran a few errands and went grocery shopping.

We came home and Justin smoked some hamburgers for us.

I made some salsa for my sister to take with her and some green sauce.

I got a email a couple months ago on restaurant secret recipes and one was for Casa Ole green sauce.

I was kinda skeptical about making it cause I wasn't for sure if it was legit and I didn't have all the ingredients that it called for.
But low and behold it turned out almost just like it, just a little thicker.
I was pretty dang proud of myself!
After my sis left I did a little garden work while Jaina played with daddy.
Our garden is really pathetic this year. I have three tomato plants and only 1 is making. See the red pot, I tried potting a tomato plant in it to see if it would make and obviously it didn't :(
Lesson learned.
We do have jalapenos, Thia peppers, banana pepper and bell peppers growing this year.
And this little guy is my first pumpkin! Maybe...hopefully this will be my 500 pounder! Also just a side not for all you people who like to garden, don't ever let your okra get this big.
It doesn't taste good and you cant cut through them.
But I did get to save the seeds so I will have some for next year. After I was finished out in the garden Justin set his hose rack up.
His uncle Larry makes them out of iron. We got this one last time we were in Wichita.
I think there pretty neat you just wrap your hose around the head of the longhorn. Other then that, Jaina and I went to church this morning.
They had a wonderful sermon this morning over trust and kindness.
We attended First Baptist of Salado and I'm pretty sure this is going to be our church from now on. If only I can get Justin to start going with me, everything would be great!

Jaina has had a couple of first this weekend starting with knowing how to both open and close the door by herself. I guess its time for the safety guards on the door handles now.

She also surprised me by counting 1-2-3 all by herself!
She was in the bathroom taking a bath playing with a toy boat. I had my back turned the opposite direction doing something when all of a sudden she said "ok 1-2-3!" and then the water went splash.
It actually shocked me!
I told her to do it again and she did!
Lol, I guess that is something she picked up in daycare this week.
See daycare is not so bad after all!

And in top of all that good news Jaina went potty 4 times today in her potty chair!

I let her wear her "big girl panties" all day today though she did have two accidents on the floor she still managed to go all on her own in her potty chair!

Hopefully by the end of this week, diapers will be NO MORE!!!!!

I may....be crazy

Ok so I've gone a little Kate Gosslin here lately and have taken control and got some things organized.
You know when things are on your "to-do" list but you never get around to doing them and they bug you until you do get them done.
And you just never feel organized.
Well that's me and that's where I am in my life right now (on all aspects).
If you didn't know better you would think I was 9 months pregnant and "nesting", haha.
But one easy fix was my kitchen.
Organize it, throw it out and get it done!
I cleaned every nuck and cranny, including the doors, cabinet, fridge, pantry and the bass boards. I even waxed my plants! Haha seriously.
But it's done so I can relax just a little now.
Another small task I've accomplished is getting my binders put together....with tabs! I love recipe books and I love tearing out good recipes from magazines as well. And they have been thrown in this binder to never be seen again.
Until now, I have tabbed every section and sleeved them as well so they wouldn't get wet while cooking.
See, arnt you proud.
But I'm not finished, along with my recipe binder I decided to make 5 more. Yes, 5 more, one for desserts and party ideas, home improvement projects, home updates, body and health and home remedies.
See children this is what grown ups do for fun now, bahahahahaha!
I have plenty more projects like these so I hope I keep them going and get them done.
And this girl, she has been having a blast in daycare this week but the down fall is that she came home sick today :( that's the only bad part of putting your child in daycare.
They have been having VBS all week and have been making cute little projects like these glasses all week.

Arn't they precious:)

Wordless Wednesday

This is for Brook since she's pregnant without me:(

We were only 6 weeks apart last time.

Home again Home again

Today was Jaina's first day back to daycare.
When I went to pick her up her hair looked like this! LoL
I thought it was cute, she never leaves her hair in a pigtail but she left it in almost all night.
The key is to buy the tight plastic rubber bands instead of the thick big ones like i did. Duh!

We picked a good week to start back up at daycare because they are learning their colors. Tomorrow is yellow day so everyone has to wear yellow.

We came right home and picked out her outfit and got things ready.
This just prepares me for the nights she comes home from school and tells me she needs 50 cookies ready by the next day. Lol
And you may have wondered where this little doggy was while we were on vacation.
She was at the vet for 5 days.
I think she got a little bored because she chewed all the stuffing out of her bed.
She was so excited to see me when I went to pick her up. She howled at me all the way home.

Summer Vacation Part.2

Friday we woke up and met Pops and Granny at Whataburger again and then enjoyed a little shopping.

We hit up all our favorite places.

Granny bought Jaina some toy fire trucks and a couple of souvenirs.

We walked over to the Connoisseur where they have a huge 28 pound orange cat named Oscar.

I was excited to show Jaina the cat this year because last year she really didn't know what a cat was but when we walked in you could instantly feel something wasn't right.

I walked over to the counted and asked if they still had Oscar and the lady at the counter said no that he had died back in October :(

Jaina didn't know the difference anyways and found this big guy and wouldn't let go of him.

He's been at their store for a while too. Then we walked back over to do a little shopping at the Islander before we went to the beach. Jaina was not in the mood to take many pictures she was ready for a nap instead.

She fell fast asleep so we let her stay with Pops and Pat while Justin and I enjoyed the beach by ourselves.

We had a good time just him and I for a couple of hours.

We never get just a couple of hours by ourselves anymore.
We did a little bit of this.....

And a little bit of this.......

We have never seen so many people at Port A at one time. I don't know if it is because it's the middle of July, the oil spill in the other states but it was packed!
So we decided for now on when we come back it will be in May right before school is out or after September when the kids go back to school. LoL
After a couple hours at the beach and a little swim in the pool with Jaina it was time for dinner.

We had dinner at another one of our favorites, Spaghetti Works.

Here we were last year

And here we are this year

After dinner we drove around the Island for awhile and then got some ice cream.

Saturday we were up and out of our condo by 9:30. Pops and Pat left early in the morning to head back to Wichita.

We did a little shopping and driving around before we headed out.

I can't believe how fast vacation goes by. It seems like it takes forever to get here and then it's over before you know it!
On our way home we stopped in Corpus Christi for a bite to eat at the "original" Whataburger.

Justin has never been before and neither has Jaina so I thought it would be a neat place for them to go.

It is the only two story Whataburger and it sits right across the street from the ocean.

I like this picture because Jaina is looking at the statue like "who is that man". Lol

We had a long drive back and now we are home.

We are totally Whataburgered out!

And we are already ready for our next vacation!
